Very sad to hear of the passing of Karen Hitchcock. Mike and I had the pleasure of meeting Karen as our second ever client back in 2009 and over the last 10 Christmas seasons, she has left an everlasting impression on us. Every year we have been decorating for her outside and helping her put up her live tree inside. Karen was one of the nicest, sweetest, and friendliest people I’ve ever met. Karen always had a smile and greeted us with hugs and kisses and let us know how the family was doing. We had a running joke with her about her decorating. She did not like how perfect the lights were on her bushes, she wanted them not to be uniform so we would joke we would decorate normally and then mess it up until it was what she wanted. We discussed her husband Murray's favorite fan called “big ass fan” that was in her living room and we always enjoyed hearing the story. We got to wish her mother a happy 100th birthday and she was a riot! Karen and her mother would listen to Rat Pack Christmas and sit in the kitchen or the couch as we hung the lights and garland on their tree, it was always a time we really got to decorate in our advertised family-style. She was a collector of Santa Claus statues and figures and had over 70 of them. I remember one time having to stay 45 minutes chasing her dog max around the yard because he stole my glove. It wasn’t until I read her obituary that I realized what she had done throughout her life. I didn’t learn about this until now so I missed out on her wake but wanted to share a few snippets of our stories and memories of this wonderful woman. I will truly miss her more than I can put into words on a social media post. We went through a lot over the 10 Christmas celebrations from blown fuses, switching to LED, helping her find a new tree when hers showed up not looking like a Christmas tree, Murray passing, and so much more. Karen, I’m sure you and Murray have a new Big Ass Fan and are enjoying being back together I will always remember you with a smile! ~Matt and his elves

I Failed at Running a Charity. What I Learned

Many don't know that besides decorating I (Matt) am a digital consultant. Recently we wanted to do what we love but do it while also helping to make a change. Here's my latest linkedin article. If you know any nonprofit charities or have causes you believe in it would be great to get an introduction so we can help them claim their $120k/year in free advertising from Google! https://ift.tt/2J5FSKv
